Bellingham to Anacortes

after lots of hospitality from jim, sarah and zannie in b-ham, we were officially on our way. the first ride was deceivingly easy, as we would soon find out. seems fresh legs pedal easier. we managed to cover about 40 miles in 4+ hours on this first leg, and had some breathtaking views. it was also our first introduction to riding up hills with 50 pounds of gear strapped to our bikes. but considering we were just a couple of punk monks who hadnt ridden more then 2 miles in over a year, we thought we did pretty good. even with the 10 mile detour, we had fun. and thanks to some divine arrangement, we had an extraordinarily beautiful place to stay that night.

cd at our anacortes camp site. you cant buy views like this. (maybe you can, but they cost way too much) we just happened to see a closed road going toward the coast just outside of anacortes. turned out to be the beginnings of a another wonderful subdivision. but no houses yet. so we had the place to ourselves. slept right on the water on a freshly poured concrete slab. the life of luxury.

cruisin down the bike trail across the bay from anacortes. the wind was wicked, but we survived.

beach music

killer views from roadside. seems there are some pretty big mountains up here. at this point we are on our way to riding 10 miles out of the way, thanks to some slightly skewed directions from our favorite auntie. may not seem like much, but on a bike, 10 miles is no small thing. plus to get back on the right road we had to climb this wicked steep hill. that was the beginning of bcd's bike pushing lilas, since having sri mridanga drum strapped to his back made the ascent a bit grueling. (dont worry sarah we still love you)
